COUN 6206 - Counseling Children, Adolescents, and Their FamiliesCredits: 4 This course prepares counselors and behavioral health specialists to provide developmentally appropriate, evidence-based services to children, adolescents, and their families. Students examine typical and atypical development, theories of psychopathology, assessment and diagnosis of childhood mental disorders, and counseling strategies to address common emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns. Emphasis is placed on working collaboratively with parents, caregivers, schools, coaches, and other professionals while integrating ethical, multicultural, and neurodiversity-affirming practices.
